LRLR 2024 is Safely in the Books!
Our most sincere thanks to friends and family for helping make this year’s ride to support our colleagues who work Behind The Scenes a financial success! Please continue to share our story with those folks the charity can help and to donate when you can at https://wp.behindthescenescharity.org/ It’s never too late. The link to donate for this specific ride will be active through mid-August.
We also want to thank our Ride Marshalls – Patrick Wallace, Christina Smith, Moe Conn and Kacey Conn for organizing a safe, wonderful tour of West Virginia, with sweeping tree-lined country roads dotted with historic and interesting stops!
It’s quite a list, but highlights included: An overwhelming guided tour of the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (feel free to ask us about this one); A special visit to the state capitol in Charleston where we were greeted by Randall Reid-Smith – Cabinet Secretary at West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History; The town of Matewan, home to the Mine Wars Museum, the Hatfield and McCoys, and the beginning of the labor movement and formation of unions in the US; A private tour of Huntington’s historic Keith Albee Theatre currently under restoration; The New River Gorge National Park; The Lost Caverns; The Greenbank Observatory; and The Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. This ride was titled The Cryptids Tour and we searched them out! We found The Grafton Monster, The Flatwood Monster (a photo op with “Big Foot”), Mothman and we did our best to find the elusive Bat Boy!
The ride also included nostalgic, cool and eclectic places to eat (look up Hillbilly Hotdogs) where we had a chance to meet locals who were friendly and welcoming. Our time together is a time for purpose first, as well as fun, friendship and, of course, a little shenanigans. It’s our hope that the handful of photos posted here reflect all of the above. Till next year, be safe and be well. #longreachlongriders #dontsuck #donate #LRLR24
