Candela Members Return From NATEAC

Posted on July 26, 2016 by alariedesign.

Bill Ellis and Dale Ward recently returned from attending the North American Theatre Engineering Architecture Conference (NATEAC). The conference kicked off with a dinner cruise Saturday leaving from Chelsea Pier. The 3-hour cruise provided the perfect environment to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Throughout the cruise there were stunning views from the Hudson of the Manhattan Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and the Freedom Tower

The first day of the conference opened up with a keynote address by, former Lincoln Center president and current Robin Hood Foundation president, Reynold levy. The “They Told Me Not to Take that Job” author held a very informative keynote highlighting several key points on leadership and team building. It was intriguing hearing how Levy navigated between the major arts centers to complete the renovation and rehabilitation of the Lincoln Center; something he was told he would not be able to accomplish.

Following the Keynote address Dale attended The Return of the Kings session discussing the 10-year renovation project of The King’s Theatre in Brooklyn. The theatre was built in 1928 but was abandoned in the mid-70’s and since then has been overrun by vandals, weather, and rodents. Candela Controls is looking forward to seeing the impact that this renovation will have on the community.

After lunch Dale attended the “System Integration” session that Bill was a panelist for. The audience was very interactive and posed a variety of good questions to which the panelists provided in depth answers. Topics of discussion included misunderstandings about LEDs and how to best make them work and integrators needing to step up and inform the consultants and architects about the need for a system integrator.

Ward and Ellis were impressed with the vast knowledge and expertise that these sessions and others provided and are looking forward to attending the next NATEAC.
