LRLR Day 1 – The Altimeter Tour
It’s a good day for a good day!
The day began with a short ride to breakfast set up outside (how nice is that in July for us Floridians!) at the Denver Performing Arts Center generously sponsored by Westview Productions. Thank you for your support! Also, the first attempt at the “Dopher Park” parking formation received a thumbs up by it’s namesake, LRLR rider Cris Dopher.
After a brief visit inside the theatre for a photo opportunity, 27 like-minded folks headed out on 17 bikes and in 2 chase trucks in the direction of the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. I’m sure I will run out of adjectives to describe the breathtaking scenery throughout the day. A larger photo blog will come later.
Afterward we set out for Mt. Evans, where the air is thin and the snow falls like dipping-dots (thanks for the reference Reverend!). We were excited to be welcomed by the locals as we slowly rolled up to the summit. Later we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Echo Lake Lodge, known as the most pretentious shelter house in the mountain parks. I don’t know about that, but they have a GREAT view from the front porch! Don’t skip dessert – they also know how to make pie. We’re quickly discovering that there’s great homemade pie to be found west of the Mississippi!
The evening was spent in the peaceful ski town of Winter Park. It is off-season after all.
As a reminder, the following is an excerpt from a letter we received from Behind The Scenes and serves as one example as to why we ride:
“Thank you so much for helping me and my family when we are experiencing so many hardships in our lives.”
-A stagehand unable to work because of debilitating back problems.
